Much more than just a functional element of urban infrastructure, public lighting is a lever of attractiveness for local areas. Modern and well-designed lighting improves safety and comfort for citizens, and highlights the visual and cultural identity of the area. This investment represents an opportunity for energy and financial savings, as well as a unique occasion to reinforce an image while meeting the challenges of sustainability and quality of life.
Public lighting: an asset for local attractiveness
When perfectly dimensioned, public lighting contributes to the enhancement of urban spaces and historic sites. A well-lit city reveals itself in a new light at night, its monuments are sublimated, its parks invite you to relax, and its public buildings gain in prestige. This has a direct impact on the attractiveness of a public and/or private place, accentuating its charm, character and visibility for residents and visitors.
The renovation and modernization project of the Cochin hospital and the Port Royal in Paris is a successful example of urban transformation through light. Carried out in collaboration with the technical departments of the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) and HESS, this lighting project illustrates how a well-designed lighting can bring back to life spaces that were previously perceived as cold and aging.

Transformation of the Cochin hospital and the Port Royal
Thanks to an innovative approach, these two sites have undergone a veritable renaissance. Lighting has transformed these hospital spaces, bringing warmth, conviviality and visual comfort. Users and visitors can now enjoy a soothing environment, making their stay more pleasant. Three major luminaire references were integrated into this renovation:
- RESIDENZA: installed on both sites, it brings comfort and serenity, while enhancing the surrounding buildings, thus reinforcing the positive perception of the premises.
- VILLAGE 300: the “favorite one” , this luminaire combines aesthetics and efficiency, replacing conventional 4-sided lanterns fitted with discharge lamps. Its neo-retro design and subtle backlighting blend harmoniously with the old buildings on both sites.
- CITY ELEMENTS 180 bollards with presence detection: used to illuminate pedestrian walkways and the main entrance, this device ensures safety and comfort while creating a harmonious lighting ambience that respects the surrounding green spaces.
A management system for a mindful lighting
Each Residenza and Village 300 luminaire is fitted with a D4i driver and a Zhaga (ZB18) socket. In the near future, a CMS (Centralized Management System) linked to a TBM (Technical Building Management) of the sites will provide lighting management by light point or by logical group of luminaires. Beyond the energy savings achieved by this management system, lighting is optimized according to the needs and requirements.
A “green” and respectful renovation
In addition to the aesthetic and functional aspects, the modern lighting of these sites respects environmental standards, with controlled luminous flux and a color temperature of 2700K, in compliance with the 2018 decree. This helps with preserving biodiversity while providing soft and soothing lighting.
A call to action for establishments open to the public
Through this exemplary project, public-access establishments are invited to consider public lighting as an enhancement tool for their community. Embellishing public spaces, improving the well-being and the safety of citizens while reducing environmental impact by combining performance, durability and aesthetics are all benefits within easy reach.
