5 July 2010: The Signal - A New Interpretation of the Clock Tower
Three coloured illuminating columns installed on the grounds of the Villingen-Schwenningen garden show newly interpret the traditional clock tower, indicating the time via light signals that appear in the three columns.
The hour appears in the twelve windows of the red column. The blue column has six windows, each representing ten minutes. Symbolically, the minute tower exhibits a clear association with the Neckar River with the blue light depicting the movement of water, "filling and emptying" in the column. The yellow second column is the most dynamic element, animating viewers to determine how the clock is read. In contrast to the minute column, the "water level" in the second column first rises to the highest point, which corresponds to thirty seconds. Afterward, the level sinks until it reaches the end upon which the 30-second animation begins again, falling gradually.
Lighting Innovation Group AG designed the new interpretation of the steeple clock, which uses illuminating columns (CITY ELEMENTS) with heights of 8.5 to 10 metres. The columns are the product of collaboration between the Waldmann and Hess companies.

21 May 2010: Official Opening of the "ULO"
The light pavilion - a stage for fascinating light events
Christoph Hess CEO, Wolfgang Auber Waldmann Marketing Director and Gerhard Waldmann, Managing Director of Waldmann (l. to r.) open the "Unknown Light Object" to the public.
Together with the Waldmann company, Hess conceived and realised the idea for the light pavilion and its spectacular light show.
As soon as the sun goes down, the pavilion is illuminated in the constantly changing colours of the full colour spectrum. The pavilion is unlike anything our eyes have previously seen and therefore bears the name ULO, which stands for unknown light object. LED lighting fixtures installed along the light panel edges emit their light into the glass. The panels' exterior surfaces intensify the effect via their screened coating.
Inside the pavilion, there is something for three senses with intriguingly sophisticated light installations for the eyes, gentle background acoustic treats for the ears and various fragrances for the sense of smell. Besidessomething for the senses, the pavilion has very practical aspects, such as a presentation demonstrating how energy can be saved.

17 May 2010: District council members visiting the Landesgartenschau
Upon completion of their session, the members of the Schwarzwald-Baar district council visited the garden show. Council Head Reinhold Mayer (middle) reports on the contributions made by the district to the garden show.
After a guided tour around the grounds, Jürgen G. Hess (right) hosts the council members at the ULO. pavilion, serving them red wine and tarte flambée.

Hess Products and the "ULO" on the Grounds of the Garden Show
Hess products appear throughout the entire grounds, including various luminaires, benches and waste receptacles. The durable site amenities and efficient LED solutions with high-grade aesthetic design complement the landscape design perfectly.
Carefully positioned illuminating strips and in-ground luminaires create a very interesting atmosphere. They may be seen around the perimeter of the Holzpolter (1), a huge stack of logs.
Hess luminaires also illuminate the Schwenningen train station and the underpass.
